Lava stone

About craft and material

Lava stone comes from an active volcano, so it can resist very high temperatures, but surprisingly, also low temperatures and temperature fluctuations. It also has a natural ability to dissipate heat very well, which means that hot pans can be placed directly on its surface. It is also extremely durable. The firing process creates an exceptionally hard surface that can withstand corrosive chemicals and UV exposure. It doesn’t chip or scratch easily, but can be damaged by knife edges — using a cutting board is advised.

One of its other advantages is its non-porosity. The stone is impervious to water, won’t harbor bacteria, and is stain resistant. And because of all of these reasons combined, we are convinced that lava stone is a perfect material for our Moon Plate.
